Clyde Lionel Parish, age 67, died at home in Queens, New York on 12/21/2023. He was born 11/11/1956 in Brooklyn, New York. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents: James Norwood Parish, and Ethel Daly Parish; and his siblings: Ledorian Blake, Cynthia Parish, and Richard Parish.
Clyde lived in Jamaica New York for most of his life. He attended P.S. 123, Shimer Junior High, and Forest Hills High School. He briefly attended college in Chicago before returning to New York. He married Joyce and had their first child, Anjella. After Joyce enlisted the family moved to Texas where Clyde did construction work until the birth of their second child, Michael. Clyde then became a stay-at-home parent until he returned to New York in 1992. He worked for American Building Maintenance.
One of Clyde’s favorite things to do was eat. When the kids were young it was tradition to once a month go to Little Ceasar’s to order pizza, then drive down the street to the Chinese restaurant for the buffet to go, then pick up the pizzas. If there was any money left over sometimes, we’d pop into Baskin Robbins and get ice cream cones.
Clyde enjoyed fishing, watching sports (Mets and Giants), spending time with friends playing card games or dominoes, and trying to beat the odds at the casino. He was known for his quick wit and kind heart.
Clyde was always one to assess a situation and make strategic decisions. Growing up he noticed that one of his friends was an excellent runner but not the most coordinated batter, so he introduced a pitch runner rule that allowed him to participate in a way that highlighted his best skills.
He is survived by his two children, Anjella Warnshuis and Michael Parish, his ex-wife, Joyce Parish, and his sisters Nita Williams and Frances Peterson; his granddaughter, Bethany Warnshuis; his nieces and nephews: Michelle, Michael, Sandra, Sharon, Roland, Sharon, Jeanette, Genero, Evan, Tyrell, Celeste, Twone, Shirell, and Yamese. He also has several grandnieces and grandnephews.
