Clark Adam Fleming passed away at his home in Atlanta, GA on June 20, 2024 at the age of 62.
Clark was born on September 18, 1961 in Washington, DC to Orville Edgar (Ed) and Jean Ann (Dulaney) Fleming. He grew up in Centreville, VA and graduated from Chantilly High School in 1980.
Clark was a modern renaissance man, with a professional path as diverse as his interests. He was a lifetime member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as a Firefighter for several years. He also took great pride in his work as a landscaper, planting trees and nourishing the greenery seen around the Federal buildings and museums in Washington, DC. This early work reflected his lifelong passion for nurturing growth, both in nature and in the community. Clark later took to the roads, driving school buses, limousines, and tow trucks, ultimately serving as the safety officer for the towing company. Although he was unable to work anymore after sustaining a serious injury, he continued to look back fondly upon his time spent serving the community.
At home, Clark's love for plant-life flourished. He had a particular fondness for the art of bonsai, and also enjoyed tending an indoor hydroponic tomato garden later in life. His kitchen was another place of creation, where he enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. Always eager to learn and explore, Clark embraced new hobbies with enthusiasm and took pleasure in learning about other people and cultures.
Clark treasured his role as a father most of all, and he loved his children with a ferocity like no other. When his young son was sick with a terminal illness, he poured his heart and soul into caring for him. He also bragged about his daughter to anyone who would listen, and continuously showered her with love and praise well into her adulthood. Clark was especially excited by the birth of his first grandchild in January of this year, and was a doting grandfather until the day of his passing.
Clark was preceded in death by his son, Julien Adam Fleming, in November 2000, as well as both of his parents. He is survived by his former wife, Donna Laflen; one daughter, Danielle (Robert) Kosarko, and grandson Terence; three brothers Michael (Donna), Stuart (Tamara), and John (Darlene) Fleming; and a constellation of friends who will miss his presence profoundly.
Clark's life was a testament to the power of friendly connections and the joy found in simple pleasures. As his family and friends reflect on his memory, they will find comfort in the knowledge that his spirit continues to bloom in the gardens he tended, the meals he crafted, and the hearts of those he touched.
