Christopher Mathias, 43, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on September 17, 2024, following a stroke. Born on October 20, 1980, in Phoenix, Arizona, Chris lived a life defined by love for his family, loyalty to his friends, and a passion for the things he held dear.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Melissa Mathias, and his two sons, Santiago and C. J., who were the lights of his life. His loving family includes his mother-in-law Annabelle Leyba, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Carol Heath; his uncle and aunt, Kenny Dean and Nancy Lanning; his cousin David Hanes and his wife Andrea, cousin Adam Hanes and his wife Chelsey, and cousin Kenny Michael Lanning. Chris was also blessed with many friends who meant the world to him.
Preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Kenneth and Betty Lanning, Chris shared an especially close bond with his grandmother Betty, whose love and guidance were deeply cherished throughout his life.
A proud fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Chris could always be found rooting for his team with his signature enthusiasm. His greatest joy came from the quiet moments spent at home with his family. He embraced the simple pleasures in life—whether sharing a meal, watching his sons grow, or enjoying a peaceful evening with loved ones.
Chris's sudden passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. His warmth, humor, and loyalty will forever be remembered.
A memorial service will be held at Riverside Mortuary in Albuquerque on October 11, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. His family invites all who were touched by his life to gather and celebrate the man he was.
May he rest in peace and live forever in the hearts of those whom he loved and who loved him.
