Cheryl Hope Washington was born at Sharon Hospital, Sharon, CT to the late George R. and Irene Washington. She grew up in Norfolk and attended local schools. After school she moved to Hartford, CT and lived there for the remainder of her life. She worked in several care institutions in the house cleaning departments but due to her health problems, was forced to "retire" early.
She was plagued by physical problems most of her adult life. When she was happy, she laughed with childlike enthusiasm and enjoyed being around children and her family. Her laugh was loud and contagious. She loved her kitty companions.
She developed the knack of finding "treasures" along her various travels. Many were small pieces of furniture that fit with her overall system of festively decorating her apartments. Sometimes she would find very useful "treasures" for her nieces, nephews and siblings. She tried to find a home for all the many varied things.
As she got older, she developed more and more physical problems. Some she shared, others she kept private. Since she didn't drive, the family took turns driving into Hartford to take her to various family events. She enjoyed those times together.
She was predeceased by her parents, George R. and Irene Washington, brothers: George Edward Washington, John Washington (Vickey), Robert Washington (d. Marianne), David "Jimmy" Washington, two sisters: Martha Namey, Eleanor Batky (Robert), daughter Melissa Rosado.
She is survived by six siblings: Mary Kantor (d. Frankie), Barbara Sherwin (d. Chuck), Ronald Washington (d. Norma), George W. Washington (Debbie), Alvin "Al" Washington (Kim), Brent Washington, son: Daniel Rosado-Christopher.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. All live in the local area. Her niece, Tiffany Moyer-Washington, lived the closest to her and often helped her as needed.
We'd like to give special thanks to Debbie Nero, who helped her juggle finances, and we cannot thank enough, Heather Flaun, who went way over and above in her role as social worker and friend.
A celebration of her life will be held December 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Praise Christian Fellowship, 52 New Hartford Road, Barkhamsted, CT.
