A Life of Love

Cecelia Sandra “Sandy” McCormish, born Cecelia Sandra Wolf on February 14, 1934, in Rochester, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Costa Mesa, California, surrounded by her family. She was 91.

Sandy was the daughter of Paul and Hazel Wolf and the younger sister of Regina (d. 2015). She was raised in Rochester, PA and went on to earn her RN degree at Temple University in Philadelphia. Throughout her life, she served others in hospitals and college health centers, settling into a career at Orange Coast College, where she tended to students and formed dear and lasting friendships.

On December 28, 1957, she married Joseph Robert “Bob” McCormish. Together, Sandy and Bob lovingly raised their three children: Robert Allan McCormish, Richard Scott McCormish, and Karen Jeanne (McCormish) Hummel. Their home was a place of warmth and laughter, serving as a regular and beloved gathering space for all members of their family.

Sandy is survived by her three children and her five grandchildren: AJ Hummel, Joshua Hummel, Alex Hummel, Jack McCormish, and Kelly McCormish.

Before Bob passed away on February 17, 2025, he requested that his memorial be delayed and that he be remembered along with Sandy. A joint service celebrating their lives will be held on June 27, 2026 (details forthcoming) for family and friends. Immediate family will gather at Riverside National Cemetery for the interment of their ashes, where military honors will be rendered for Bob’s service in the United States Navy. Sandy and Bob will also be remembered in a Mass at St. John the Baptist Church in Costa Mesa, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Sandy will be remembered for her warm and steady presence, a reflection of her kind and caring nature. Her family finds comfort in the thought that she and Bob are joyfully reunited.
