Full of life, ambitious, down to earth, yet ready to dance at a moment’s notice. Catherine Perez Quisumbing, of San Diego, CA, died peacefully in Riverside, CA on October 1, 2023, surrounded by love and laughter.
She was born in Saysain Bagac, Philippines on March 7, 1955, to Simplicio and Natalie Perez and was the third of nine siblings. Catherine, also known as Terri to close friends and family, attended St. James High School before graduating with her B.S. in Sociology at the University of the East, in Manilla, Philippines.
She started her career as a school teacher but also satisfied her entrepreneurial spirit by running a clothing distribution warehouse. She enjoyed a fulfilling career in nursing as she enjoyed helping others.
We recently learned that she successfully challenged the Registered Nurse exam, however, she was unable to practice as she became ill. This is just one example of how she persevered no matter what circumstances stood in her way.
Catherine was proud of many things, but her pride and joy were found in her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed spending time with them whenever she could and encouraging them in her own unique way. She spoke most highly of her grandkids and their many talents and traits.
Her eight brothers and sisters were also her best friends. According to them, she was the most reasonable of them all, quick to listen with empathy, and slow to speak without judgment; she was a straight shooter, offering wisdom and clarity that never left them guessing.
She enjoyed going to church, exploring new places, singing, and attending a variety of concerts. She was beautiful inside and out and easily loved by all who met her.
Catherine will always be remembered for her “tell it like it is” approach to life.
We couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend our time with Catherine as a parent, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Catherine was preceded in death by Simplicio and Natalie Perez and is survived by her children, Ryan Quisumbing, Iris Padilla, Joann Quisumbing, Aleja Quisumbing; and her grandchildren, Aaralyn Padilla, Alana and Duke Quisumbing, Taylor Manalo, Kian Kai, and Lalena Rae Baclig; and her four brothers and four sisters.
