IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carson
Thompson
April 9, 1922 – January 26, 2025
Carson Thompson, 102, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to his family and community.
Carson was the son of William J. and Ruth Thompson and grew up in Amsterdam. He graduated from Wilbur H Lynch High School and Union College where he was a member of their hockey team. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation and deployed to Europe, serving his country during World War II with bravery and honor.
After the war, Carson returned to Amsterdam and began his career as a textile chemist at Mohawk Carpets (Mohasco) . It was there that he met the love of his life, Ella, over a chocolate donut—a sweet beginning to 74 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
Carson was a devoted and active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam, NY, where he served on the session. He played a vital role in the effort to rebuild the church following a devastating fire in 2000.
In addition to his church involvement, Carson was a proud member of the Free Masons. He was also an avid skier and a dedicated member of the National Ski Patrol. A passionate golfer, he achieved the incredible feat of scoring 10 hole-in-ones during his lifetime and could often be found enjoying a round at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.
Carson is survived by his loving family, including his children Nancy (Dave), Pat, and Jim (Linda); his grandchildren Alan (Denise), Jon (Amy), Jonathan, Vern (Ashley), Nicole (Rob), Erin (Sean), and Katie (Steve); and his great-granddaughter Chloe. His kindness and wisdom will also be fondly remembered by his many friends and extended family.
Carson is predeceased by his beloved wife Ella, his son Greg (Diane), and his son-in-law Vern, along with many other dear family members and friends who were blessed to share in his remarkable life.
Donations in memory of Carson may be made to the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church St., Amsterdam, NY 12010 ( https://www.upcamsterdam.net/donate ).
