IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol
Baker
August 2, 1942 – September 1, 2025
Carol (Sue Hackett) Baker, age 83, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away on September 1, 2025.
She was born on August 2, 1942, in Flint, Michigan. Carol was a trailblazer in her field, becoming the first Professional Legal Secretary (PLS) in Louisiana. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish her own business, Baker Land Title.
At the age of 50, she achieved another remarkable milestone by earning her law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, WA, showcasing her dedication to lifelong learning and personal growth. Carol then used her legal expertise to make a difference in the lives of others, particularly through her work with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), where she helped children navigate the legal system. Her commitment to service extended to her work with H&R Block, where she served as a Master Tax Advisor for over twenty years, continuing this role until her passing.
Carol had a passion for music and performance, finding joy in singing with the Sweet Adelines and participating in the Colorado Symphony's "Too Hot to Handel" show. Her love for travel was a defining aspect of her life. She particularly enjoyed river cruises, embarking on several of these adventures, and explored various destinations throughout her life. Her recent trip to Taiwan was just one of many journeys that brought her joy and new experiences.
Wherever she went, Carol had a remarkable ability to make friends, leaving a trail of warm relationships all along her path. Carol was an impressive and independent woman who embraced adventure throughout her life while also dedicating herself to helping others and pursuing professional excellence. Her zest for life and travel inspired those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Susie Hackett. She is survived by: • Her daughters, Elizabeth Baker (husband Richard Osborne) and Christine Boyette (husband Greg Boyette) • Her grandchildren, Evan and Joshua Boyette • Her sister, Jean Mitton (wife of the late Charles Mitton) • Her brother, Alan Hackett (husband of the late Dr. Elizabeth Anne-Mackinnon Hackett) • Her nieces, Shannon Mitton Gough (husband Kevin Gough), Katie Hackett Karana (husband Nawar Karana), and Meredith Hackett Hampton (husband Joshua Hampton) • Her nephew, Matthew Mitton
Carol will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched through her work, her vibrant spirit, and her gift for friendship. In lieu of flowers (although she LOVED flowers), please consider donating to The Lustgarten Foundation: https://lustgarten.org/?form=give
