Barbara Lynne Opp, 80, from Greeley, CO passed away on June 18, 2025

at Fairacres Manor Nursing Home in Greeley.  Barbara was born on

September 28, 1944 in Mitchell SD.  She was a loving friend and companion,

mother, grandmother, daughter, dedicated teacher, gifted pianist, bowling

enthusiast and talented golfer.  Barb was as avid a reader as you will ever

know.  She had an outstanding home library.  She played a mean game of

scrabble and loved to play rummy and pinochle.  The work she did with

needlepoint and counted cross stitch were amazing.  One of her favorites

was “Johnny Appleseed.”

She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1962.  In 1967, she graduated

from the University of South Dakota majoring in English and French.  Her

teaching  career began in Farmer, SD which lead to a full time teaching

position in Spencer, SD.  In 1974, the family moved to Greeley, CO.

After completing her career as a “stay at home Mom,” she returned to

teaching.  She taught at John Evans Junior High School, Greeley West

High School and Union Colony Preparatory School.  She was one of the

best English Teachers to set foot in the classroom.  After retiring, many

of her former students stayed in close touch with her.

Barb’s pride and joy have been her grandchildren.  She enjoyed attending

their school activities.

Barbara is survived by her friend and companion Richard, their son, Steven

and his wife Jaime and their children Torin, Jackson and Ella; granddaughters

Ellie and Katy and their mother, Ariana; Tanya Opp and her daughters Lauren

and Allison;  sister-in-law Louise French, Rapid City, SD.

She was preceded in death by their son Michael, her parents Helen and

Giff Cunningham and her brother-in-law Jerry French, Rapid City, SD.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 19th at 4:00 PM at the Adamson

Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO.
