IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Anne
Cohen
June 5, 1934 – December 13, 2025
Barbara Cohen passed away peacefully at the Capstone Center in Amsterdam. A 72-year resident of Gloversville, Barb was married to Norman J. Cohen in 1953 and enjoyed life to the fullest with him for 64 years. They have three children, Barry Cohen of Philadelphia, George Cohen of Boston and Suzanne Cohen Severin of Amherst, MA. In addition, she had seven grandchildren, Jacob, Jeffrey, Dennis, and Jade Cohen; Haylee Urban; and Ryan and Mathew Severin. She also was blessed with two great grandchildren, Wynn Jaden Urban and Joel Severin.
She was predeceased by her husband Norman and grandchildren Jacob and Jade Cohen.
While family always came first, Barbara was the consummate volunteer in the community. Over the years, she volunteered at the Gloversville Jewish Community Center, where she was the first woman president; the Knesset Israel Synagogue; Gloversville Public Library; and Nathan Littauer Hospital, where she was honored for more than 30 years of service. She also taught nursery school for nine years. Her hobbies included painting, family events, participating in a local women’s investment club, golf, fashion, bridge and, of course, her grandchildren.
Barb was so loved in the community that she couldn’t go anywhere in the area without being greeted by local friends, leading one of her young grandchildren to wonder if she and husband Norm might not be the mayors of Gloversville.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to either the Nathan Littauer Hospital Foundation or Gloversville Public Library.
Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral at Knesseth Israel Synagogue in Gloversville at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, to be followed by a short graveside service at the Knesseth Israel Cemetery on Clyde St. in Gloversville.
