Anessa Rae Mccoy Gritts

June 6, 1977 — October 29, 2024

And now abideth Faith, Hope, Love, these three; but the greatest of these is Love. 1 Cor 13:13

Anessa Rae Gritts passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at her home.  She was born June 6, 1977, in Knoxville, Iowa to Eugene W. Gritts, Sr. and Pamela J. Gritts. She was the youngest of five children.  Growing up Anessa was spoiled by her parents, siblings, & extended family.  She attended Pleasantville High School and during her high school years, she was involved in Art and Choir; lettering in Choir.  She also spent time helping out in the school library where she made many friends. Anessa lived in Indianola, Iowa for a time and worked as a Pharmacy Technician. She loved playing video games, which is how she met her ex-husband, Chris McCoy.  In April of 2015, Anessa and Chris were married and she moved to Portland, Oregon where she made her home. Later, they grew apart and eventually divorced. However, Anessa decided to stay in Portland and she met a new love, Nick Van Lear, with whom she was dating, at the time of her passing.  For a short time, after they met, she lived in Washington with Nick, but her health issues brought her back to Portland, Oregon last year.  Anessa loved children but did not have any of her own. She was a Beloved Aunt to all of her nieces and nephews.  Many times, she was referred to by them as "The fun Aunt” and she would do anything for them.  She definitely put in her time babysitting for her siblings.  Anessa is survived by her siblings: Jeanette Quinnett (Joe White) of Indianola, IA, Tammy Kappelman (Brad) of Swan, IA, Eugene Gritts Jr. (Brenda) of Ankeny, IA and two half siblings Sally Watkins & Phil (Jan) Gritts of Oklahoma.  Anessa is preceded in death by her Grandparents, Parents, and Sister, Betsy Gritts.  Anessa lived life to the fullest; she loved the outdoors; and she loved God and especially children. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Anessa's remains will be returned to Iowa and she will be buried in the Swan Cemetary. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time, to be announced at a later date.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isa 41:10
