Robert P. Thompson, 71, of Chandler, AZ, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025. Bob was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ serving as a pastor, missionary, teacher, and friend. He is a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) as well as Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (IL). As his career continued, he earned a MTSOL degree from Arizona State University and worked there with Global Launch teaching English as a second language. He was founder of Elijah’s Cave Ministries reaching out to college students at ASU with a strong passion for international students. He was currently teaching classes at Chandler Gilbert Community College as well as leading English Corner at ASU.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara (Lorton), daughters Bethany (Micah) Hutchison of Orlando, FL, and Bonnie (Jeremy) Runyan of Glendale, AZ, and son Ben (Heather) Thompson of Mesa, AZ, and nine grandchildren. Also surviving Bob are a brother, William Carroll IV (Jenny) Thompson of Atlanta, GA and sister-in-law, Aprile O’Keefe of Normal, IL as well as several nieces, nephew and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents William Carroll III and Wilma Lenora (Powell) Thompson and a brother, James Richard Thompson.

A service to honor Bob will be Saturday, March 8, 10 AM at Arizona Community Church, Tempe, AZ. Bob was an avid sports fan and wearing your favorite team shirt to the service is encouraged. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Elijah’s Cave Ministries, 525 East Meadows Lane, Gilbert, AZ 85234.
