Mary Therese Bain
October 31, 1959 — April 22, 2024
Mary Therese Bain was born October 31st, 1959 to William and Lilith Ewald in Elmshurst, IL. She was a wife and loving mother for almost 40 years. Mary died April 22, 2024
Mary loved theater and movies. She met her husband, Michael Bain in a high school performance of the Odd Couple and knew she wanted to marry him;and she did, 10 years later. Together they had three daughters, all of whom caught the theater bug at one point or another.
Mary went back to college to study cinematography, something that had a lasting impact on her and her friends and family. She loved the movies, regularly going to see independent and blockbuster films alike. Daughter Jennifer recalls a year of ‘Tuesday Movie Dates’ when she and mom would meet up and see the most recently released hit movie. They beat the crowds, had mountains of popcorn and the theater to themselves. Mary delighted in long conversations about films. For better or worse, none of us will watch a movie without hearing her in our minds call out every continuity error we catch.
She frequently told us that she said “I love you” through baking. She was an avid Great British Bake Off fan and had a true passion for baking. She became a master gluten-free baker, adapting her skills to offer several members of our family this dietary option. Mary had an aptitude for baking, we don’t have recipes because she intuitively knew what and how much was needed in every bake. Watching her bake and problem solve was like our own personal baking show, one that we all wish could have had more seasons.
Mary will be missed. She left a legacy of care, compassion, and continuity with everyone she knew. We will honor her every time we bake for others or enjoy the magic of the movies. She’ll be with us in spirit and heart until we meet her for the next adventure.
She is survived by her husband, Michael and her three daughters, Laura (Andrew), Jennifer (Tyler) and Rachael (Damon) as well as her brothers William (Lois) and Robert (Kathleen) 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
We love you more than words,
Michael, Laura, Jenny, and Rachael
