Joyce Marguerite Burns

November 29, 1937 — January 11, 2025

Joyce Marguerite Burns (née Livingstone) passed away peacefully on January 11th, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on November 29, 1937, in Verdun, Canada, she was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth Birtwell and John Livingstone.

Joyce shared a wonderful childhood with her siblings, Edna Karthaus (née Livingstone) and Jack Livingstone. Her journey took her from her Canadian roots to a vibrant life in the United States, where she made homes in Manhattan Beach and San Diego, California, before settling in Little River, South Carolina.

A dedicated professional, Joyce spent many years in school administration while residing in California. She also served with distinction at the Canadian Consulate in Los Angeles, where her grace and skill left a lasting impression.

Joyce was predeceased by her devoted husband, Cecile "Robbie" Robson, with whom she enjoyed countless happy days filled with dancing, golfing, and soaking in the beauty of Carolina’s weather. Their love and partnership were an inspiration to all who knew them.

As a faithful member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach, Joyce found community and spiritual nourishment, under the stewardship of Father Merchant, who she adored.  Her kindness and vibrant personality left an indelible mark on those around her. Her sharp wit will be missed, as well as her exclamation of “Holy Doodle” when something was amiss.

She is survived by her loving nephew, James Karthaus of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and a host of friends who will remember her fondly.  The same friends who supported Joyce tirelessly in her last years.  You all know who you are and may God Bless each and every one of you.

A memorial service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in the spring of April, with the ceremony taking place outdoors. She will be lovingly inurned in the Church’s Columbarium, a serene and fitting resting place.

Joyce’s warmth, wit, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the ASPCA in her memory.

Rest in peace, dear Joyce. You will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
