With profound sadness, we announce the passing of John Scott Alan Reynolds, age 72, of Blythewood, SC who departed this life unexpectedly on May 15, 2025.
Born in Wiesbaden, Germany to John Reynolds and Elizabeth Reynolds, Scott lived a life characterized by dedication and uniqueness. After graduating from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, he moved to South Carolina in 1978 and built a fulfilling career as a Senior Scientist at DHEC/DES after 46 years. During his tenure, he worked at the EQC Laboratory, Division of Air Quality Analysis and later with the Office of Science Services.
Outside of work, Scott found pleasure in sailing in his youth in South Florida, engaging in Civil War reenactments and education and being active with his son in Boy Scouts. He found joy in building and flying remote-controlled boats and aircraft, including modern drones. His passion for horticulture was evident in the various gardening projects around his home and workplace. He cherished his comic and LEGO minifigure collections and always looked forward to weekend movie outings with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Reynolds; son, Justin Reynolds; daughter-in-law, Melissa Reynolds; and older brother, Sage Reynolds and brother-in-law, Coleman Rutkin.
