Janice Catherine Jones
December 19, 1936 — February 20, 2025
Janice Catherine (Seitz) Jones, 88, made her transition on February 20th, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of family. She was born on December 19th, 1936, in a farmhouse in Altura, Minnesota, to Mildred (Ruhoff) and George Seitz. The first of 8 children, she grew up with 5 brothers and 2 sisters, who all remained close over the years.
Janice graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1954. A few years later, she embarked on a grand adventure to San Francisco, California, where she met her future husband, Clifford (Terry) Jones while working as a teller for Wells Fargo Bank. Terry's company did its banking with Wells Fargo and he would frequent her window, flirting and teasing in his charming way. They were married on May 26th, 1961, a special date that happened to be the same anniversary date of both sets of parents.
Janice and Terry started their family in 1962 with the birth of their daughter, Sheryl Marie, and bought their first home in South San Francisco shortly after. Laurel Lynn (Lauri) came along a couple years later and then the family moved to Novato, California in 1968, with third daughter Carolyn Leigh born three years after that. Family meant everything to Janice. She was the ultimate homemaker, sewing her daughters' clothes and Halloween costumes, curtains and other home decor, and was an active volunteer at their schools. Sitting down to dinner every night as a family was important to her, as were hosting Sunday dinners and special birthday dinners even after everyone left the nest.
When oldest daughter Sheryl and her family moved to the Portland, Oregon area in the 90's, with Lauri following a few years later, and then Carolyn and her husband, Janice and Terry quickly realized they could not be apart from them and made the big move to West Linn, Oregon, in 1999. It was a testament to how much family meant to Janice and Terry, especially given how attached they were to the Bay Area.
Janice thoroughly enjoyed her golden years in Oregon, spending time with family, which included five grandchildren (Kevin Cooper, Sean Cooper, Rachel Cooper, Jackson Brenner, and Lily Brenner) and her daughters' spouses/partners Ian Cooper, Randall Brenner, and Eric Montgomery. She and Terry relished in the comfort of two beautiful Oregon homes, the latest on a golf course in Tigard, where Terry made his transition in 2021.
Janice had a real passion for quilting and belonged to a variety of quilting and sewing groups over the years. She created over 200 beautiful quilts, which could be seen on every bed in every house and hanging on just about every wall. She also gifted many of them to family and friends.
Janice will be greatly missed by all who knew her for her warmth, caring, honesty, and laughter. She will be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who could always be counted on. In her final days, with her daughters by her side, she looked them in the eyes and declared, "I raised three fine girls", which she herself would say is her legacy.
