March 4, 1929 — February 14, 2026
**Obituary for Elizabeth "Wendy" Appel Brown** On February 14, 2026, Elizabeth "Wendy" Appel Brown, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in Saint Paul, Minnesota, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived. Born on March 4, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wendy's journey was one filled with laughter, love, and a passion for helping others. Wendy was the cherished wife of Lawrance Brown, and together they raised three wonderful children: Anita Norbut, Douglas Brown, and Madeleine Brown. She took immense pride in her role as a mother and later as a grandmother to Carla Buckler, Iyesha Norbut, Matthew Norbut, Katie Brown, Eleanor Croce, and Carolyn Croce. Wendy embraced her role as a great-grandmother with joy, creating lasting bonds with Mathieu, Brandon, Mia, Reef, Maple, Cayden, Abigail, Ethan, and Oakley, who brought her so much happiness. An optimist at heart, Wendy was known for her caring nature and infectious laughter. She was always the caretaker in her family and had a unique ability to uplift those around her with her positivity and humor. Her legacy of kindness will be forever cherished by all who knew her. Wendy was not just a loving family member; she also dedicated her life to serving others professionally. After attending Concord Academy and the University of Pennsylvania, she obtained her BA in Sociology from San Jose State University and earned her Master's from Bryn Mawr College of Social Work. Wendy worked diligently as a Medical Social Worker at the Veterans Administration and later as a private therapist, where her compassion knew no bounds. Beyond her professional achievements, Wendy had a zest for life that was evident in her many interests. She loved exercising, visiting art museums, attending ballets, plays, and musicals, and passionately engaging in progressive politics. Reading brought her solace, and nothing warmed her heart more than spending time with her family. A celebration of Wendy's life will take place at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Saint Paul, MN, on Saturday, March 28th, at 3:00 PM. In honor of her strong belief in community and activism, her family welcomes expressions of condolences in the form of donations to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, ACLU, Friends of the Earth, or the American Friends Service Committee. While we will miss Wendy's vibrant spirit, we take comfort in the love she left behind and the countless lives she touched. Her story is one of a beautiful, generous heart, and she will always be remembered with love.
