Exceptional University Librarian, marathon runner, nature guide and prolific author

David C. Weber was born and grew up in Waterville Maine. He served in World War II as a radio operator on the front lines. He graduated from Colby College (Maine), earned a graduate degree in Library Science from Columbia University (NY), and while at Harvard University, he also earned a Master of Arts in History. In 1948 he joined Harvard University, eventually rising to be Assistant to the Director of Libraries. Fortunately, he met his future wife Natalie while at the Harvard Libraries. In 1961, he left Harvard to become Assistant Director of Libraries at Stanford University, advancing quickly to the position of Associate Director. In 1978 he became the Director of University Libraries at Stanford University.  While at the Stanford University libraries, he was involved in computerizing the library information system.

Throughout his many years he enjoyed hiking, skiing, nature walks and ran in many marathons and mini marathons. He traveled (often with his wife Natalie) to over 50 countries throughout the world. He retired to Southern California and enjoyed leading nature walks, book groups, singing and birding. He was a prolific author, writing and publishing not only academic books, but a variety of other ancestry-related and special interest books.  He passed away at 101, and is survived by his wife of 70+ years, and three of his four children.
